After this date, we will need to charge you for the cost of the lunch since we are guaranteeing a certain number of guests.
To get to Mount Vernon from the Denver area, take I-70 west to Exit 254 (Genesee Park). Turn right (north) at top of exit ramp onto Clubhouse Circle Rd. After entering the club gate, follow the paved road east 1.3 mi. The club’s phone no. is 303-526-0616.
Michael Madigan, longtime journalist (including 30 years at the Rocky Mountain News), will speak at the annual meeting about his new book, Heroes, Villains, Dames & Disasters, a collection of 150 historic front pages and news reports gleaned from the Rocky’s archives. “They’re like snapshots from history,” states Madigan. Concerning the book, then-Mayor John Hickenlooper commented, “The Rocky Mountain News had a front-row seat to history for almost 150 years. This book terrifically recaptures the glory, the tragedy and everything in between.” Rocky publisher John Temple remarked, “The Rocky couldn’t have asked for a better-written or more beautiful eulogy.” The book received the Colorado Authors’ League first place award in general non-fiction for 2010.
Since his retirement shortly before the Rocky’s demise, Mr. Madigan has divided his time between Arvada and Fraser, Colorado, where he and his wife Julie hike with their two Australian shepherds. He continues to write and recently finished a Colorado fictional adventure-thriller, Double Dare. He is also the author of Historic Photos of Denver in the 50s, 60s and 70s, a non-fictional assemblage of black-and-white images.
